Mexico has a truly comprehensive national bus network and Mazatlan is served by many bus lines -- such as those listed at the bottom of this page -- that usually offer a number of classes of service on most routes.

Mazatlan city buses are a very practical -- and very inexpensive -- way for visitors to get around town, with bus fares under a dollar even for the newest air conditioned buses.
Mazatlan bus service is frequent on most bus routes, with city buses operating on most routes from very early morning until late at night.
Green deluxe Mazatlan city buses -- like the one pictured at left -- are in increasing service throughout the city. First used primarily on routes that served visitors and the wealthier districts along the waterfront, these buses cost slightly more than older city buses but are well worth the extra expense -- they are air conditioned and much more comfortable than standard Mazatlan buses.
Mazatlan city buses will usually stop if they see you flagging them, and bus drivers will usually stop to let you off pretty much anywhere along the route. If you flag a bus and it doesn't stop, the bus is probably either full you're in a zone with set bus stops.
Mazatlan buses have a route name at the top, a list of stops written on the windshield, or both.
If you are staying in north Mazatlan, the Golden Zone - Zona Dorada, Centro, or anywhere within easy walking distance of the Malecon, your most important bus route will probably be "Sabalo-Centro".Download a free map of Mazatlan bus routes!The "Sabalo-Centro" bus route runs basically North - South mostly along the Malecon, with a dog-leg into Centro.
Along most of the route traffic is in both directions, and you can take any bus marked "Sabalo-Centro" going in the direction you want to go. To return, stand on the other side of the street.
An obvious exception to the "stand on the other side of the street" suggestion is when you get into Centro, for example at the Mercado Pino Suarez (the downtown Central Market).
Since the streets on each side of the market are one-way, coming from points north you will arrive on Aquiles Serdan, the east side of the Central Market.
To return North go to the west side of the building -- Benito Juarez street.

All interstate routes served by the Mexican bus lines listed below offer bus service to Mazatlan in clean, safe and luxurious buses (usually with "Primera" as part of the name, and often manufactured in Europe by Volvo or Mercedes Benz) featuring airline-style mens and womens bathrooms, movies, audio channels on-demand, free WiFi and other amenities.• Seats are reserved on Mexican interstate buses, and are universally 2x2 seating -- either you have a window seat or an aisle seat: think medium sized airliner.
• Seats on some particularly luxurious long-haul buses are set up in a 2x1 configuration which provides even greater seat width and the opportunity for bus passengers traveling alone to travel long distances without sharing their space with anyone.

• You will need to show some form of government-issued identification before boarding a first-class interstate bus in Mexico.• When you book your ticket online there is often a 10% discount, and for bus passengers who are over 60 years old and have an INAPAM card (senior identification issued by the Mexican government), the discount is 50% whether you book online or buy your ticket at the bus terminal.
• A note for those who plan to use their INAPAM card: INAPAM seats on interstate buses in Mexico are limited, so book in advance!
• As in most Mexican cities, many bus companies in Mazatlan often have terminals that are specific to the bus line, not in a centralized location.
• Mazatlan has a main bus terminal -- the Central de Autobuses (the unusual round building) located just southeast of the aquarium at the corner of Jose Angel Espinoza Ferrusquilla and Rio Panuco -- where pretty much all interstate buses stop to drop off and pick up passengers.
The central bus terminal has a large waiting area with seating, large public TVs, clean pay toilets, luggage storage (guarda equipaje), public computers (there is a small charge), food, beverages and a news stand.
• If you decide you like traveling by bus in Mexico, all of the major interstate bus lines have frequent-rider programs that provide additional discounts on bus tickets!
